A Trophy
Posted on April 30, 2007
I have essentially ‘finished’ the new manuscript and my publishers are happy with it - yes! they want to publish it (phew) but frankly I wish I was still working on it. Really miss it being a part of my life plus now I have to get on with the more practical work of earning a living with a new teaching job starting in a few weeks.
Mostly I’m looking forward to getting my editor’s comments on it and throwing myself back into that world I created - real life is dull by comparison!
I received four hard-back copies of the German edition of ‘The Olive Sisters’ (Land der tausend Baume) last week which was quite strange and fun. Don’t really know what to do with them. My son asked me to sign one for him which he has now displayed to good effect in his trophy cabinet along with all his certificates, soccer tropies and a tiny babies sock he found on the street in Rome several years ago - I’m very honoured to be represented there.

The End of the Mandala
Posted on April 22, 2007

When the mandala is complete the seven monks involved perform a ceremony and then destroy the mandala. The idea being that the mandala represents the richness and beauty of our lives and the dissolving of it represents the impermanence of everything.

Monk Business
Posted on April 22, 2007

We’ve been fortunate to have Geshe Sonam and his monks visit locally for a week to create this incredible mandala from coloured sands. They spend hours every day on it and there are a constant stream of visitors and well-wishers visit to see the work. It’s great to see children and teenagers just as amazed at the patience and beauty of the work.
