The Big Day

Went to my post office box today and to my great surprise there was the first copy of my new yet to be released BOOK! It’s a very exciting moment opening the package and I savoured it quietly sitting in the car. The cover, which I initially had reservations about, looks truly excellent particularly with the author name in a dark red foil against the cloudy background. The weight of it is really nice, it’s the large format and sort of floppy and soft. I opened it and started reading it and, by jove, it was GOOD! Even if I do say so myself. After the launch of my last novel I went to bed and during the night had the sensation of people reading my words, all different scenes in the book coming up in my dreams. It was so strange, a bit like having a creative caesarian. Anyway it’s thrilling to know that people will soon be experiencing - and hopefully - enjoying the fruits of my labour. (bad pun)

Downpours
Posted on February 9, 2008
A wet week after the glamour and excitement of the previous weekend. It has absolutely poured with rain all week to the point that my gutter down-pipe decided enough was enough and threw itself to its death. By the next day the sheer quantity of water running down the side of the house meant it started bubbling up under the carpet in the TV room making it smell like a horse had died in there.Around the same time a rat took up residence on the deck outside the kitchen where the bins live - worse still, made several forays into the kitchen for extra tidbits! I was flat out trying to do revisions to the screenplay, provide my publishers with bits and pieces they need to start promoting the book and organising the launch - rats and water I don’t need. So I pulled up the carpet and dried out the floor, pestered the plumber until he fixed the down-pipe and poisoned the rat - not very Buddhist but ughhh! Peace reigns and it is still bloody raining.

Movie News

As I mentioned in my last post I have been working on a screenplay for my book ‘The Olive Sisters’ for movie producers Gwen Rogers and Bonnie Burgess. It’s been pretty tricky given I’ve never written a screenplay before and they — and my co-writer, Steve Bynum — have been on a different continent. But this weekend they flew in and we had a really intense two days hashing over the script and nutting out the problems and possible solutions — it was hard work but so much fun, I just can’t tell you. Anyway, we also had a fabulous, glamorous time at the beautiful Jonah’s Restaurant at Whale Beach. As you can see they’re both gorgeous — and not just in the looks department. Man, I’m gonna have to get myself some big hair.
